PS-30 Insert Carrier 50,5 kg
Recovered from BOP using 12,1” Magnum Fishing Magnet
Used Magnum 12,1" OD Fishing Magnet on DP to fish a 50,5 kg PS-30 Slips Carrier located on top of BOP Wear Bushing.
Background
During tripping OOH with 8 ½” BHA, for a major operator
on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS).
One of the PS-30 Slips Carrier fell into the well and landed
on top of the 10 ¾” Wear Bushing @ 156m in the BOP.
A 50,5 kg piece of equipment was now laying inside the
well.

Event
During tripping out of hole with 8-1/2” BHA.
Driller observed PS-30 slips not able to hold weight.
Investigated issue and visually confirmed one out of three insert carriers missing from the PS-30 Slips.
Insert carrier landed on top of 10-3/4” wear-bushing @ 156m. Slips had been used for tripping approx. 1600m of 5” drill pipe prior to incident, Weight of insert: 50,5 kg
Solution
Innovar Solutions As 12,1” Magnum Fishing magnet mobilized.
Fishing run 1:
Ran in hole with Fishing Magnet to 155,5m and removed Master Bushing.
With slow rotation on the string, the string was moved around in Rotary using the Drill Floor Manipulator arm. Managed to break the Insert Carrier Lifting Eye and recover to surface.
Broke Lifting eye.

Fishing run 2:
Ran back in and engaged the Fish, with Fishing Magnet and pulled gently to surface.
Managed good grip with 12” Fishing Magnet.
Fishing Magnet theoretical pull force ~2,8mTon.
